'death by chocolate'

4th day of our internship and first day off....some kind of islamic feast today...so no children showing up to school...isn't it nice? they are always off on christian, hindu AND islamic holidays....what a fantastic life...haha. We used the opportunity to cross the water by boat and discover ernakulam. ernakulam seemd much more indian than fort kochi! Small, packed streets. Much more traffic, many shops!! You can buy everything there!!! Tiny shops that only sell rice, next to a shop that only sells buckets, next to shoes, next to christmas decorations next to sweets next to toilet seats next to screws...and so on. It started rainig in the afternoon, denise and i saw a hospital so we went inside to check out the physiotherapy department. We were greeted by a very dark hospital due to an electricity cut which occur frequently here (somehow more often in the weekends than in the week) In the physiotherapy unit was actually not very much to see. We met two physios in a very tiny room which fitted two or three dirty beds and three very old electrotherapy machines....and as it was already in the afternoon they were also done with treating...but nevertheless it was interesting to visit. While looking around in the hospital thunder and lightning started and we spend a few more minutes in the waiting hall until the thunder and most of the rain was gone...then we went very sticky, wet and dirty back by boat to our quiet, relaxing little place: 'fort kochi'. Spend some money on compulsory earings and then went to check out an aryuvedic clinic!! Denise had an one hour long massage and some oil on her forehead (forgot what it's called...:-/ ) i have my appointment for tomorrow morning...one hour deep tissue massage followed by  a ten minute steam bath...very curious what it'll be like.... I will inform you :) Fotos of ernakulam will follow tomorrow!

In fort kochi you can find quite a few 'westernized' cafes and restaurants, you will never see an indian eat in such a place, only 'whities'. But they do serve some very good cakes. This one was called 'death by cholocate' in a cafe called 'teapot'. It's quite a nice place. But the waiters never talk...i tried to teach them to simply greet us or say 'you are welcome'...but i think they are becoming a little annoyed of me trying to educate them...i wonder why....;)
Anyway, the cake was good ;-) and the masala tea which came with it was very tasty as well...but this very popular tea seems to be a little bland in the 'european-style' places...the best tea you can find with the real indian people on the streets in the cheap cafes.

I hope we don't seem bored?!?!? We are very busy with preparing our study goals ;)
